Psychology has long become a complex science. However, with all the abundance of its branches, it still does not have the one that would study adultery. Perhaps, family counsellors would be happy to address the problem, but who would start asking such question in the presence of the patient’s wife? Therefore, science can not clearly account for male adultery. The “all-men-are-jerks” explanations seems logical, yet it is not scientific.
Still, there are several theories on this subject.
We can definitely single out two main reasons that push men over the edge of adultery.
Firstly, men start cheating when family life becomes a routine. Lack of time a woman has to dedicate to herself, the children and the housekeeping often contribute to this factor. At the end of the day, she is completely exhausted and it is clear that she no longer wishes to put on makeup and show her beauty to her husband.
And secondly, men need to feel that they are welcome and interesting to women, as well as to make sure that they have not lost their charm and can seduce any woman (if they wish to, that is). The search for such feelings is not always limited to flirting, as having “taken the bait”, men are rarely able to stop in time.
